I had to look up the lyrics her to be sure I hadn't mis-heard the first line.

It really does end with the word "American" which to my ear is not an antecedent to the following where-clause.

Don't know if it's good song writing or not, but I might say,"I'm proud to be from America where at least I know I'm free . . ."

Do you find those lyrics at all jarring, NN?

BTW, "where at least I know I'm free" sounds stupid all by itself for obvious reasons I won't belabor you with.

There was a lot to pick at in those videos you posted, but worst of all was the impossibly gooey fake Jacobean English in the lyrics.

The flick is crammed with great talent prostituted to "anti-racist" pulpiteering. The irresistible Petula Clark sings, dances and acts up a storm -- in spite of everything her audio-visual rendition of Glocca Mora is one of the heart-stopping moments all of musical celluloid. The flick's fake Englishness and Irishness is campy and kinda fun in context.
