Back in the day I sold computer books. Many of my customers were overseas. During the Gulf War, I was talking to Englishmen working late in London so I I laid it on a little thick. I said, "It is terrible here in Silicon Valley. Gas just went over a dollar a gallon. I had to pay $1.09."
The Englishman turned to a colleague and said, " I am talking to an American. He is complaining that gas just went over a dollar a gallon."
I went on to tell him that ARCO had been fined $20 million for selling Alaskan gas for under a dollar a gallon. I said," If we could divert a tanker to England, we could sell it 5 gallons for a fiver."
The point is that our gas prices are pushed higher by regulations and taxes.
