Even though Republicans telegraphed how they planned to attack her record, Jackson still imploded under questioning. And a Republican Senator shut down Ketanji Brown Jackson with this brutal reality check. Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley posted on social media about Jacksons disturbing record of taking it easy on child pornographers and pedophiles. Hawley listed seven cases where Jackson handed down much more lenient sentences for child pornographers than the federal guidelines or the prosecutors called for. Senator Hawley noted one disturbing case where Jackson sentenced an 18- year-old in possession of hundreds of images or pictures of children as young as eight-years-old to only three months in jail when prosecutors recommended a sentence of two years. Hawley questioned Jackson about her claim during the trial that an eight-year-old was peers with an 18-year-old. Jackson tried to dodge and weave any accountability for going light on the child pornographer. Jackson tried to dodge and weave any accountability for going light on the child pornographer. Senator, again, I dont have the entire record, Jackson declared. I remember in that particular case, I considered it to be unusual, in part for the reasons that I described. I remember in that case the defense counsel was arguing for probation, in part because he argued that here we had a very young man who just graduated from high school. He presented all of his diplomas and certificates and the things that he had done and argued, consistent with what I was seeing in the record, that this particular defendant had gotten into this in a way that was, I thought, inconsistent with some of the other cases that I had seen. Hawley expressed his disbelief that Jackson could claim an 18-year-old with hours upon hours of child pornography was not a pedophile and that she felt sorry for him and his family. Hawley blasted Jackson for talking about the child pornographer as if he was the victim in this case. To me, to take a guy whos 18-years-old, who has what the government says is an extremely large collection of prepubescent pornography, eight-year-olds, 10-year-olds, 11-year-olds, were talking about, I mean, gobs of hours of time here that he has, Hawley stated. And you say to him, what you say well it was just a collection. I mean, he was just viewing it and it was, you know, essentially they were his peers. You say to him that hes not a pedophile. I dont know how you know that. I dont know why thats relevant to the guidelines. But maybe it is. You say hes not a pedophile. You say that youre very sorry for him. And what he suffered. And then you give him three months when, frankly, a liberal prosecutor is asking for two full years. Under normal circumstances, Jacksons conduct in this case should be disqualifying. But will any Democrat Senator cross their Partys identity politics orthodoxies to oppose Ketanji Brown Jackson? Poster Comment: We do not need a sick and misguided individual on the Supreme Court. One thing nobody is asking, "What is the race of the pedophiles that you're letting off?" I'll give you three guesses. The first two don't count.
I'll give you three guesses. The first two don't count. Gee whiz. You mean I do not get any free shots at guessing? I used to work with a guy that got 10 years for molesting and underage girl. He did all 10 years. No time off for good behavior. You know when they found out why he was in there, the Cons didn't give him any rest. ;)
Per the NY Times Style Guide: Do not use "convict", use "incarcerated individual". "Unjustly incarcerated individual" if the II is a POC.
