As I understand it, any and every person born to a Jewish woman is a permanent Jew, and that would mean that if ANY of your maternal ancestors were Jewish, then you are Jewish too. It doesn't matter how far back. 1500 years is no problem. That would mean that unless you could prove every member of your maternal lineage going back thousands of years was NOT Jewish, then you could be Jewish too. So all of us are potential Jews.

This is a curious Judaic rule, however, that it would be based on the mother and not the father. It's not unreasonable to speculate that the logical basis for it, even in antiquity, would be that men could screw around with prostitutes and have illegitimate children and not be obligated to regard the offspring as Jewish entitled to fatherly support. Only the children of faithful Jewish wives would be so entitled.

As for Putin, he's on record as a Russian Orthodox Christian and in at least one interview spoke fondly of the church he was baptized in. He condemns transgenderism claiming teaching kids about it is a crime against humanity. He promotes the family unit as essential for moral living, and has stated that all people are equal in God's eyes.

I'm as sure as a non-Jew can be about Jewish customs and traditions. Then again, maybe I am a Jew.

But as this theory goes, it would have to be a purely maternal GGG mother of which we all have only 1. Your mother's mother's mother's mother being Jewish, in this case. Because that would cascade Jewish inheritance all the way down. Is that not right?

That is the way I have always understood the way Jewish blood lines work.

But then Vladimir Putin was baptized into the Russian Orthodox Church on the feast day of St. Michael.

The priest suggested she name him Michael, but his mother said she had already decided on Vladimir in honor of his father. ;)
