Massive volcanoes happen like that during a Grand Solar Minimum. During the Dalton Minimum of 1790-1820, one volcano in Indonesia caused the "year without a summer of 1816." During the Maunder Minimum of 1645-1715, there were 3 volcanoes in Europe in 1709 that caused the Big Freeze. The top 40 inches of top soil froze in France sending food prices soaring 600%.

During a GSM, the sun becomes magnetically weaker allowing more cosmic rays to strike the earth causing more volcanoes and earthquakes. A cosmic ray is really just nuclear particles from a distant star. During the Maunder Minimum, there was a massive earthquake on Christmas Day, 1699 on the New Madrid fault.

During the Dalton Minimum, there 4 quakes in 1811-1812. One quake forced the Mississippi river to reverse course. That takes a massive amount of energy to lift that much water and force it to overcome the force pushing it in one direction and send it flowing in the opposite direction.

An 8.35 earthquake releases the same amount of energy as two 25 megaton Hydrogen bombs.

I'm rooting for the supernova or asteroid.

I'm an old hand at blue-eyed nurses with a death wish.

Thanks. I've watched a number of the DUST sci-fi short stories on YT. Some are good, though others a bit lacking. It's kinda hard to articulate a full plot in 8-12 mins.

This one's pretty good.

My tinnitus won't let me sleep without non-random noise, so I set my chromebook on automatic. I've picked up a lot in in almost a decade.
