After listening to that mush-mouth garbage tonight, all I can think is he committed political suicide. It all sounds so reasonable on the surface, but notice he did NOTHING about the t-bone steak employers are teasing immigrants with? Not a thing. They offer what to a Mexican or Guatamalan is a dream job, at $6 an hour, to do pretty nasty jobs. They know damn well their employees are illegals, because their turnover is 200 percent. But Tyson and Swift and the rest can't run their companies on real pay; you can automate a lot of the food industry, but cutting cows up has to be done by hand. Killing chickens has to be done by hand. Picking strawberries has to be done by hand.

I have no idea how to solve this mess. No one does. We can't deport 12 million people, and if we did, it would be a total disaster. You want 6 million houses tossed on the market at sacrifice prices? You want half the restaurants in the country to shut down? The meat plants? The gardening industry?

That will happen. Bush's plan is totally ludicrous, a mish-mash that will affect nothing. He deliberately cut the money congress had set for hiring new border patrol, and his numbers tonight were way off. His worker ID card will be counterfeited within weeks. The employers will continue to believe they're real, because without those workers, they are out of business. They deliberately moved their plants out of the cities to avoid unions, and now the only way they can get employees willing to do nasty jobs for lousy pay is to tempt poor people over the border.

They have used tech to make skilled workers obsolete. In the old days, a good meat cutter made a great living. Today, a machine does the cutting, not as well, and we get an inferior product, and it somehow still costs a lot more. Tyson and Cargill, to name two, are pumping their meat full of water and brine to maximize profit, and Wal-Mart only sells pumped up cheap meat, filled with water because it would dry out instantly otherwise. The grade WM sells is select, as opposed to choice or prime. The only grades lower are general, which is only used for pet food and those awful frozen "patties with gravy" things. Below that is not fit for human consumption.

Tyson is perhaps the third or fourth most powerful lobbyist in Washington, after the pharma and oil industries. Look at their products carefully. On the whole, they're pumped and salted, and really inferior. They only survive because of really cheap labor. And if you go to Arkansas, you will see guys with little wagons selling fake documents right near Tyson plants. They pretend to believe the ID because 30 guys quit yesterday and they need new bodies.

Not once did Bush speak about fining people like Tyson. Look at the records of GOP contributions, and that's why. You have decent companies like Swift, and you have the Tyson's and Wal-Marts, who want to promote a race to the bottom.

Ya know what........if there are restaurants and meat plants and gardeners that are doing illegal things while my brother is playing by the rules, I hope to hell they lose their businesses! I really do........he's lost property by playing by the rules. What makes them any better than he?

How many more years are we willing to sit on our asses and wait to be 'outvoted' -- if not actually -- mentally beat down -- by people who have no loyalty here.....who broke laws and were granted purity by our own government.

My point was, Tyson and Wal-Mart and others tempt these people over the border with jobs. They know they are illegal, they make their business plan on hiring illegals to do nasty jobs cheap. They are the ones who should be punished, not the poor people who will do anything for an income. I have spent a lot of time in Latin America; it is even worse than you can imagine. People who have never eaten meat other than cheap sausage...it is truly horrid.

If I can take a minute to give my solution. The Greeks chip in and buy a diner, then ship over young boys to work there, living in a dorm, then going home. The diner takes care of the town. I think this could be applied to Mexico and other latin american countries. They create a business, and pay taxes, then go home.

I gotta go to bed, but that is where I am now. I realize I can get flamed, but if you were a guy with kids you could not feed, you'd do what they do too.

I understand what you're saying, but it's not our problem. We are going to lose our OWN country and culture because of excessive and misplaced "compassion" and guilt. We are committing cultural suicide. I'm not sorry enough for anybody to do that. These people have got to FIX THEIR OWN COUNTRIES.
