When we worked for Illinois State Highways, the State would donate a large amount of cash to The United Way and then come back to the employees to get reimbursed. one year there were three oof us who refused to allow payroll deductions for United Way.
As punishment they dropped us off a mile apart to pick litter. The black guy took a tumble down an embankment. I still remember the ambulance and squad car making a U-turn at the end of the G-wall on Palatine Rd to go and pick him up.
After that the orders were that we were not supposed to work without immediate supervision.
I still am not sure how much of a Workman's comp award he got out of that one, But I am sure it was several hundred plus some time off for injuries he sustained. ;)
