Lee Greenwood said Friday that performing at this weekend's NRA convention would be an "endorsement" just days after the Uvalde, Texas school shooting.

The "God Bless the USA" singer joined "Fox & Friends" to address his decision to cancel his appearance at the event in Houston.

A day after "American Pie" singer Don McLean pulled out of the annual National Rifle Association convention, Larry Gatlin, Larry Stewart of Restless Heart and Greenwood announced they would also not perform.

Greenwood cited the timing of the Texas shooting as his reason for pulling out of the NRA convention. He said he and other artists had signed deals to play at the event, which was canceled in 2020 and 2021.

"The unfortunate shooting in Texas took place at a very bad time. And for me to go and play at the NRA just days after the shooting would be an endorsement. And people would then deem that as, I like this weapon. And obviously, that weapon killed kids. And I just couldn't go," he told hosts Brian Kilmeade, Pete Hegseth and Ainsley Earhardt.

"During this Memorial Day Weekend, we should also remember the servicemen and women, and first responders who’ve given their lives to protect our great country," Greenwood told Fox News Digital.

Technically he's correct, but he forgot about the defective nut behind the trigger.

Greenwood is an old man, 78, not that far behind the dementia-riddled nut behind the US government. Maybe he's losing it, not unlike The Bidet, or he's trying to protect his family from the cancel culture mob. I worry about that myself.

I kinda doubt that Lee's turned into a bad man all of the sudden, maybe he's afraid of entering a no-win situation. He's probably got a lot more than me to lose, but I think there's still might be a way to win this "culture war."

I used to tease Christine unmercifully with his song years ago. Never been a fan of Greenwood, but never met a Christine or Christa (my tax gal) that I didn't love.

Christa got a platinum rose with petals in a silver metalflake reminiscent of WY1 after this season. You know what I'm talkin' about.

Greenwood has a national audience; if he were the 2nd Amendment supporter he professes to be he would "stand up next [us] and defend [gun rights] still today." After that shooting happened at Columbine in Colorado, some woman from HHS came to my place. My immediate supervisor from where I work was here as a witness.

This woman starts asking me about guns. I said, "There are no guns here. I don't own any guns. Why are you coming here asking about guns?"
