Secretariat was my sister's favorite race horse.

At age three, Secretariat not only won the Triple Crown, but he also set speed records in all three races. His time in the Kentucky Derby still stands as the Churchill Downs track record for 1+1⁄4 miles, and his time in the Belmont Stakes stands as the American record for 1+1⁄2 miles on the dirt. His controversial time in the Preakness Stakes was eventually recognized as a stakes record in 2012. Secretariat's win in the Gotham Stakes tied the track record for 1 mile, he set a world record in the Marlboro Cup at 1+1⁄8 miles and further proved his versatility by winning two major stakes races on turf.

HE SIRED 650 COLTS. What a retirement!

Big Red was indeed the GOAT.

My oldest granddaughter is reading a book about Man o' War. I told her about Secretariat and this video, and now she can't wait to watch it with me. (Neither of us has a stupid smart phone, so we'll have to watch it on my computer.)

That 25-length win was most impressive.

The movie Secretariat is good for children and adults. It is online. I saw it a year ago for free but I do not remember the site. I remember another race horse movie Seabiscuit.

Have her look into Lava Man.

When people talk about great horses, remember about 10,000 a year race. It's a puzzle and that's what makes it exciting for me.

Just watched another video on YouTube of Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral, and in the comments somebody said that they were both descended from Man o' War. Now that's interesting. Also interesting that few or none of Secretariat's hundreds of immediate offspring came close to his greatness.

Just read all about Lava Man. Interesting, but much of that equine lingo is Greek to me.

Seattle Slew had stud power.

He was a great one, too.

I put up his photo/poster, framed, about 12 years ago. He's still there. In the tavern.

Ah, what is life without passion?

Wife and I are planning to drive up to Southern Indiana later this month. Always enjoy seeing the beautiful horse farms near Lexington. Grass doesn't grow like that in this hard red South Carolina clay.
