My Godson is about a mile north of the airport in Waynedale. I got a call from his mother last night about 0100, he has a tree on his house, no power. I can't there, the roads are closed with trees and powerlines down. I'm about six miles NNE, it doesn't look like there was any wind here.

Waynedale is torn up. It's hard to imagine straight line winds and not a tornado did that much damage. Looks like SB is going to need about 160sqft of roof and whatever water damage repaired inside.

Look like about an eight inch branch broke off a pine tree, travelled about 40' horizontally before landing on his house.

Good grief, hoping that he has good insurance coverage. Earlier, I was reading somewhere of some localized, but destructive flooding in CO.

A few years back, we had 70 mph straight line winds that broke off four power poles a few blocks over. Power was out for 36 hours. Luckily, I didn't lose any food since I kept the fridge and freezer doors shut.

But the neighbor across the way broke out his gas powered generator. ;)

Storm event classified as derecho; winds of Category 2 hurricane

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A severe storm that blew through northeast Indiana late Monday night, with wind speeds nearly 100 mph, has been officially classified as a derecho.

The National Weather Service said Tuesday the storm, which packed the Fort Wayne International Airport’s highest recorded wind gust of 98 mph and left “a significant swath of straight line wind damage” behind it, met the criteria for a derecho. Derechos are widespread, sustained, straight-line wind storms.

The area first became familiar with the weather term “derecho” in June 2012, when straight line winds ripped through the area at a then-record 91 mph and caused substantial widespread damage. Much of the area was left without power for days.

Monday night’s weather event had much of the same impact. Tens of thousands lost power, trees were toppled, and power poles were snapped in half around the area.

Just damn, glad that you're OK.

Are there reports of looting or other crimes of opportunity?
