As a guy who has carved stone, I can tell you blowing up granite is no small feat. I have not seen a point of impact, which leads me to believe a shaped charge. My question is why not do them all?
Unless the intent was to reveal who is behind them when the stone is replaced

I would have done shaped charges around it to leave a pretty pinwheel in the dirt.

What's annoying--and suspect--are the bullet point prescripts led with verbs (maintain, guide, unite, rule, protect, etc.) addressed not to the folks but to the people that feel they have the right to run them.
The congressman who dedicated these stones in 1980 said he interpreted from those words a need for self-government, which was not up there, not in no wise.

I miss being young and strong and tough. Kicking ass at concerts was part of the job. When people get drunk or high on dope, they generally become very unreasonable. It was the substances that were responsible for the mayhem I was forced into. ;)
