Taryl Dactyl and the Grass Rats Gang are in Demotte, IN, about 100 miles west of me on IN14.

That job took me six hours today on my mower, including a new stop switch, bearings behind the drive gears, a center carrier bearing and LR outer wheel bearing plus about 45 minutes drive time to get the bearings.

It was a bitch. My arthritic hands don't like working that hard anymore.

Sounds like you did a good job.

I've been refurbishing a John Deere GT245 for a friend here the last 3 weeks. I've got GT235 -- similar, but older -- so most of the systems are familiar to me. I've also got a couple of ancient JD212s; one runs great, and the other is for cannibalizing parts from. (When I rebuilt the engine 10 years ago, I put the connecting rod bearing cap on backwards. The oil feed to the rod bearing was via a hole in the bearing cap. With the cap installed backwards the hole saw negative pressure instead of positive. Ran for 32 minutes, and overheated spectacularly.)

My neighbors have zero-turn riding mowers. I've never had one.

A friend, with several trees in his acre+ yard, got a Toro ZTR 48" mower and after a rather low learning-curve, absolutely loves it.

Yes, everybody who has one seems to love 'em. I mow about 3 acres with lots of trees, so I could definitely make good use of one. But with the old depleted cotton field soil here and little rain (it rains a lot more 1/2 mile from me in any direction; I'm in some mysterious dry hole here), I don't have to mow very often.

Texas is generally as dry as ye olde bone. Not yet like the record drought of the mid-fifties, but we're getting there.
