Most of us have seen this before: Race/Ethnicity White(not of Hispanic origin)___ Black (not of Hispanic origin)___ Asian/Pacific Islander ___ Native American/Inuit(Eskimo) ____ Hispanic ___ Other(specify)____ ...or at least something similar. You read it on college applications, job applications, and other important forms. I find it very interesting that people believe that this is the best way people can be classified in the United States. This is not at all correct.

You see, many people who would check White, are not purely White, and so on. Many who would check black are not purely black as well. Many who are Black or White; are a mixture of African, European, Asian, and/or Native American. This begs to question how come there is not a category for Asian/Pacific Islander (not of Hispanic origin) or Native American/Eskimo(not of Hispanic origin) or East Indian? There is no specified racial category for the Chamorros, Phillipinos, or Sri Lankans check. Why can't all of us check Other? Because that is what we all are.

This is not only inaccurate, it is also not Biblical. Ethnologists and anthropologists have been classifying humans for centuries and most haven't come close, until now, to the true fact that race is not about skin color. In fact, some geneticists many so-called races have less in common than those of different races genetically as well as physically.

Some scientists have classified us into nine Geographical Races: European (Europeans, North American whites, Middle Easterners), African (Africans, Afro-Americans, Haitians, Jamaicans), East Indian (Indians, Sri Lankans, Bengals), Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Phillipinos), Melanesians (Fiji, New Guinea), Polynesians (Hawaiians, Samoans), Micronesians , Australian Aborigines, and American Indians (Cherokee, Blackfoot, Lumbee, and Eskimos). However, in the Biblical Sense, many of these geographical racial groups would either be in different categories than the ones described. For example, the Lumbees are a mixture of British, African, and Native American peoples. Also, the Egyptians are a mixture of African and Semitic peoples. The people of Turkey are a mixture or melting pot of European, Semitic, and Asian peoples. To show you, the reader, how inaccurate these findings are, consider Genesis 10. This chapter is a genealogy of the human racial family.

"Genesis 10:1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. 3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations."

Japheth was the ancestor of what is known as the Indo-European peoples, which includes the Irish, Germans, Greeks, and Spaniards.. This would also include the ancestors of Central Asian peoples such as the Persians and the Kurds, Uzbek, Afghans, Tibetans, Pakistani, Bengals, and Northern Indians.

"6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. 7 And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. 8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD. 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. 11 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, 12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city. 13 And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, 14 And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim. 15 And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth, 16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, 17 And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, 18 And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad. 19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha. 20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations"

Ham is the ancestor of what could better be described as the Afro-Asiatic races, or who some in America would call persons of color.which are the Black African, Mongoloid Asians such as the Chinese, Native Americans, and ancestors of some Latinos, Indians, Middle Easterners such as the Yemenis, and those of the Pacific Islands such as Samoans and Tahitians.

"21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born. 22 The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram. 23 And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash. 24 And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber. 25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan. 26 And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah, 27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah, 28 And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba, 29 And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan. 30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east. 31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. "

Shem is the ancestor of the Hebrews and the Arabs, as well as other Semitic peoples such as the Berbers. Shem could possibly be an ancestor of many of the East Indian and Malay people as well, including the Indonesians. But it is certain that many Mediterranean and North African peoples such as the Tunisians, some Iranians, and Syrians also have Semitic ancestors.

The Bible clearly shows that there is no white race, black race, hispanic race, asian race, or any other race. The Human Race is one race. In fact, we are all people of color. Japheth is not "White" and Ham is not "Black" In fact Ham was not cursed because of his color. It was in fact his grandson, Canaan who was cursed by Noah because Ham uncovered his nakedness. He blessed Shem and Japheth because they treated Noah with dignity and respect. The Bible has never implied any racism nor is there any text or word that condoned racism.

It is however well-noted that the Geographical races further prove that we are more alike than what most of us admit. As mentioned earlier, geneticists have proven this fact. It also proves that there is not one person who can say that they are of a "pure race", for there is no such thing. God is the Creator of us all and He wants us all to be united. Japheth's descendants are as diverse as those of Ham and Shem. Biblical classification of race has less to do with skin color, hair color, and eye color as it is to do with language families. Notice that the biblical races written thousands of years ago in the Old Testament are those that belong to the same language families as classified today. The Indo-Europeans are those whose ancestors spoke languages within the Indo-European families of languages which includes English, Sanskrit, Russian, and Spanish. Geographically, the speakers of these language are originally from Europe, Central Asia, and South East Asia. Those who speak Hamitic and Semitic languages are originally from Africa, the Americas, the Pacific Islands, and the Middle East, which include speakers of Arabic, Hebrew, Hawaiian, and Swahili.

If you or anyone you know have racist or prejudicial views about another group of people, then you need to repent, for racism and prejudice too are unbiblical. If you harbor any racist or prejudicial views that you haven't repented of, I ask that you please pray this prayer.

"Lord Jesus Christ, I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I do harbor ungodly views about others because of their ethnic and cultural differences. I ask that you forgive me of this and all of my sins. I turn my will and life over to You. Come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. Write my name in the Lamb's Book of Life. I thank you for your cleansing and forgiveness and salvation. In Jesus' name, Amen. "

You have made the most important decision of your life! Tell somebody of your conversion. Publicly confess your salvation. Don't be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

There are more genetic differences between the races than there are between men and women.. therefore using your logic there is only one sex.

"All told, men and women may differ by as much as 2 per cent of their entire genetic inheritance, greater than the hereditary gap between humankind and its closest relative, the chimpanzee. "In essence," Willard says, "there is not one human genome, but two: male and female."

Studies contradict view that race doesn’t exist

Posted Jan. 31, 2005 Special to World Science

Racial differences among people are real, new studies suggest, contradicting claims by some of the world’s leading scientists and scientific institutions that race doesn’t exist.

These experts had said race is merely a “social construct,” or a creation of society’s collective imagination. But the new studies, some of which come from Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., suggest that the way people classify themselves by race reflects real and clear genetic differences among them.

This indicates there is some truth behind the racial distinctions that seem obvious to most ordinary people, the researchers said.

But they added that it’s important to define race correctly, since dangerous misconceptions, such as the notion that some races are superior to others, persist and can serve to excuse racism.

Moreover, previous studies have shown that racial differences between population groups are small, much smaller than variations within the groups themselves. The newer studies didn’t specifically dispute this observation, but simply found that the between-group differences are also clear.

What is true, researchers said in light of the new studies, is that people of different races have different ancestries. This means different genes, since genes are inherited from ancestors.

“The public in general is much more honest” about race than many academics are, “because the general public knows it signifies something rather than nothing,” said Jon Entine, a journalist and author of a critically well-received book, “Taboo: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We’re Afraid to Talk About It.”

The title attests to the subject’s controversial nature, and the inflamed passions often triggered by any suggestion that racial differences reflect meaningful biological differences.

The emotions surrounding the debate arise from its origins in the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, which led to widespread efforts to wipe out racism from society. Recognizing the evils that racial classification had created, from slavery to genocides, many tried to fight racism by playing down racial differences as much as possible.

Partly in order to further this goal of ending racial discrimination, some experts began to publicize the view that race didn’t exist at all.

“Race is a social construct, not a scientific classification,” the New England Journal of Medicine, one of the most prestigious medical journals, editorialized on May 3, 2001. “In medicine, there is only one race—the human race.’’

In support of this claim, many scientists cited findings from the Human Genome Project that humans are 99.9 percent genetically alike. These findings recently turned out to be possibly wrong (see exclusive World Science story of Sept. 8, 2004, “New findings undermine basis of ‘race isn’t real’ theory.”)

However, scientists, especially anthropologists, have continued to support the race-as-social-construct position.

The American Anthropological Association’s official statement on race declares: “physical variations in the human species have no meaning except the social ones that humans put on them.” The group’s president-elect, Alan H. Goodman, was quoted in a Baltimore Sun article of last Oct. 10 as saying, “Race as an explanation for human biological variation is dead,” and comparing the race concept to a gun in the hands of racists.

The latest research to challenge the race-as-social-construct theory is a study of 3,636 people from across America and Taiwan, led by Neil Risch, then of the Stanford University School of Medicine and now at the University of California at San Francisco.

It found that people’s self-identified race is a nearly perfect indicator of their genetic background, contradicting the race-as-social-construct view, Risch said.

The study’s authors said it was the largest study of its kind. The participants identified themselves as either white, African-American, East Asian or Hispanic. For each participant, the researchers examined 326 DNA regions that tend to vary between people. These regions are not necessarily within functioning genes—some regions of the genome have no known use—but are simply genetic signposts that come in a variety of forms at the same place.

Without knowing how the participants had identified themselves, Risch and his team ran the results through a computer program that grouped individuals according to patterns of the 326 signposts. This analysis could have resulted in any number of different clusters, but only four clear groups turned up. And in each case the individuals within those clusters all fell within the same self-identified racial group.

“This work comes on the heels of several contradictory studies about the genetic basis of race. Some found that race is a social construct with no genetic basis while others suggested that clear genetic differences exist between people of different races,” a press release from Stanford said.

“What makes the current study, published in the February issue of the American Journal of Human Genetics, more conclusive is its size. The study is by far the largest, consisting of 3,636 people who all identified themselves as either white, African-American, East Asian or Hispanic. Of these, only five individuals had DNA that matched an ethnic group different than the box they checked at the beginning of the study.”

Although it was reported as the largest study to find genetic differences between races, Risch’s study is not the first. Previous studies have found that Ashkenazi Jews are genetically more susceptible than average for Tay-Sachs disease, a fatal nervous system disorder, for instance. Black populations have been found to carry higher levels of a mutation that leads to sickle-cell anemia.

Risch’s study, however, is not only the largest study but also the first to find that these genetic differences are not isolated cases involving a handful of genes, but are spread throughout the genome.

These differences should be of more than passing interest to the medical community, Risch added, because recognizing them can help tailor treatments and prevention programs to better serve specific ethnic groups.

It can also help geneticists avoid skewed results in epedemiological studies, he wrote. For instance, failing to account for the gene-race relationship could make researchers think a particular difference between populations results from genes when in fact it stems from different cultural conditions.

Several scientists who have supported the view of race as a social construct did not respond to requests for comment on the new studies, including officials from the American Anthropological Association and the author of the New England Journal editorial, Robert S. Schwartz.

However, some other scientists reacted without surprise to the new findings."

************

"As far as we can tell, the first geneticist to measure the genetic differences between human races was L.L. Cavalli-Sforza. In a study published in 1966, he summarized genetic distance data for 12 loci (most of them coding for blood group antigens) in seven major human populations and reached the conclusion that of the total genetic variation observed in the human species, less than 15 percent accounts for differences between races. Cavalli-Sforza apparently found this observation unremarkable, or at least unworthy of a comment. The geneticist who did make a big story out of it was Richard C. Lewontin in 1972. He divided the human species into seven races (Caucasians, Black Africans, Mongoloids, South Asian Aborigines, Amerinds, Oceanians, and Australian Aborigines), and each race into a series of populations (Caucasians into Arabs, Armenians, Basques, Bulgarians, Czechs, etc; Black Africans into Abyssinians, Bantu, Burundi, Batutsi, etc; Mongoloids into Ainu, Bhutanese, Bruneians, Buriats, Chinese, etc; etc) delineated by morphological, linguistic, historical, and cultural information. He then compiled gene frequency data for nine blood group systems, four serum proteins, and four soluble enzymes obtained by typing of the individual populations by immunological (antibody-based) and protein electrophoresis methods…

The assessment consists of comparing genes sampled separately from individual populations (races) with those sampled randomly from the whole species. The main consequence of the subdivision is that individuals no longer mate randomly with each other within the species; they now tend to mate within each population. As a result, individuals within each population become increasingly more similar to one another genetically but more and more different from individuals of other populations, and the proportion of heterozygotes in the populations decreases through extinction of alleles. The probability that two genes sampled at random will be different is lower if the genes are taken from the same population than if they are taken at random from the entire population comprising the species. Working against these expectations is gene flow, the exchange of genes between populations. Gene flow increases heterozygosity within populations and decreases it between populations by spreading alleles through the entire species and so homogenizing the species genetically.

Lewontin’s study revealed that 85.4 percent of the genetic variation that exists within the human species is contained within the individual populations and that the remaining 14.6 percent is accounted for by differences between human groups. Of the 14.6 percent, 8.3 percent accounts for differences between populations, as defined by Lewontin, and 6.3 percent for differences between races. Of course, since Lewontin’s distinction between populations and races is arbitrary, some anthropologists might want to call some or all of his “populations” races. "

I perceive you are here to disrupt the conversation. Races have existed since God created them when he separated all people at the tower of Babel with separate languages. He knew what he was doing; he wanted people to disperse over the entire planet. It worked. Confusing species with race seems to be a problem with you.

Show me where it says God created more races at the tower of Babel. You can't because it didn't happen. It only says he confounded the launguages and spread them all over the world. It doesn't say he made any new races. QUIT ADDING TO SCRIPTURE!.

I suspect that he took people of similar skin types and put them together. SO their kids came out similar. THat is not a new race though.

As for disrupting.....i'm am disrupting your false view on this subject.
