Low tides have left Venice's canals dry, with water levels dropping to -18 inches from a 19 inch average, months after heavy flooding.

The city is currently meant to be experiencing the season of 'acqua alta', Italian for 'high water' which occurs from October to March.

However, local reports described the tides of 'acqua bassa,' or low water with images showing the city's iconic gondalas beached highlighting the extent of the water loss.

Is there an Italian word for "tide"?

Q. Is there an Italian word for "open-air sewer"?

A. Venice.

“The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone.
TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people’s door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy…
but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the Men who just wanted to be left alone.”

It is now August, even in Italy.

This article is a couple years old, from February 2021. I couldn't help but laugh at the photo of the gondola slips a little below sidewalk level, with a very obviously deep channel in the near background.

Are we expected to believe old-timey Venetians never explored the possibility of damming up...well basically anything...prior to laying new infrastructure?

Do you know how the all the Wops got to New York back in the 1920's?

The first one swam across the Atlantic, then the rest of them walked across on the grease.

If I was Italian I would provide a funnier joke.

Shhhhh! That's going to be the luxury car brand! Front wheel-drive Camaro looking thing with El Camino style load bed. And steer horn hood ornament. Maybe even steer penis, still working that out, trapped in shootout between engineering and marketing. FWIW, I voted no on penis.

Two blondes shared an apartment, and one day the apartment caught on fire. The roommates rushed out to the balcony, and one yelled "Help! Help! Help!"

Then the other yelled "Help! Help! Help!"

But no help came.

Then one said "Hey, maybe it would help if we yelled together?"

"Yes!", the other agreed.

So they both started yelling "Together! Together! Together!"

At the World Women’s Conference, the first speaker from England stood up:

“At last year’s conference we spoke about being more assertive with our husbands. Well after the conference I went home and told my husband that I would no longer cook for him and that he would have to do it himself. After the first day I saw nothing. After the second day I saw nothing. But after the third day I saw that he had cooked a wonderful roast lamb.”

The crowd cheered.

The second speaker from America stood up:

“After last year’s conference I went home and told my husband that I would no longer do his laundry and that he would have to do it himself. After the first day I saw nothing. After the second day I saw nothing. But after the third day I saw that he had done not only his own washing but my washing as well.”

The crowd cheered.

The third speaker from Italy stood up:

“After last year’s conference I went home and told my husband that I would no longer do his shopping and that he would have to do it himself. After the first day I saw nothing. After the second day I saw nothing. But after the third day I could see a little bit out of my left eye.”
