Democrat Leader Flips Against Own Party
(PresidentialWire.com)- Democrats are getting increasingly angry with their own party, and not just because of rising inflation and the border crisis. A California Democratic lawmaker recently introduced a bill that would reverse Proposition 47, a piece of state legislation that has been widely blamed for the recent rise in smash-and-grab crimes taking place across the state.
Democratic Assemblyman Rudy Salas is taking a stand against his own party’s radical ideas and pushing back against these terrible crimes that are often recorded and shared on social media. You’ve probably seen them, too – we’re talking about the videos of people entering stores, before casually grabbing products from the shelves and walking out with them, without being challenged.
“Enough is enough…we need to fight back against the criminals who are stealing from our communities,” he said in a statement.
Under the legislation which was passed in 2014, shoplifting charges are reduced, as long as the value of the goods stolen is under $950. It drops the crime from a felony to a misdemeanor.
However, under the legislation proposed by Salas, that number would be dropped to $400 – which was the rule before Proposition 47 was passed.
It’s hardly a radical idea, but in order for it to be passed, the Democrats would need to admit they were wrong.
On Wednesday, Governor Gavin Newsom’s office refused to comment on the bill, but said that the governor would consider the bill “on its merits” if it were to make it to his desk.
