In 2021, vulnerable Syrians told the UN that access to electricity was their third most pressing humanitarian concern. The Syrian Humanitarian Country Team, that daily engages and assists vulnerable Syrians, has compiled evidence from the field of the dire impact that electricity shortages are having on vulnerable Syrian households across the country. The impact extends across all sectors, from food security, to health, education and livelihoods. The evidence shows that access to electricity has become an urgent humanitarian priority in Syria today. The humanitarian community must collectively act to shelter vulnerable populations from the multidimensional impacts of electricity shortages all while finding solutions to avoid electricity scarcity further undermining their own response.
The evidence compiled in this report were provided by Syria HCT partners across all humanitarian response sectors. UNDP Syria helped compile the information and analysis.
