Yes "Iran-backed". That's always the adjective to make it okay, even if the "backing" consisted of their receiving Iranian birthday cards. It also obfuscates to the reader, confusing the targets with actual Iranians when they are probably Syrians.

One good thing about the collapse of the USA is Israel will need to either coerce another benefactor or start acting like they really do want to get along with their neighbors. If history is any guide, it won't end well for them.

Most of the "bad actors" in the region grew from seeds planted by Mossad/CIA. Remember when Osama Bin Laden was fighting the USSR in Afghanistan, late 1980's? Daesh/ISIS are Saudi psychos, with full backing from ThoseWhoLoveUs in DC and Jerusalem.

Saddam Hussein himself was photo'd shaking hands with, I think, Donald Rumsfeld. The Panama guy, Noriaga was also on the CIA's friends list until he suddenly became unpopular for some reason and we sent the US military there to invade the country so he could be arrested.

We were propping up Saddam Hussein in his war against Iran because they overthrew the Shah, whom the Brits had installed in 1953(or so?) to remind them that their resources were the property of the UK and her Sovereign Monarch. This was done in the name of Democracy, lol.
