My state does not have an income tax so we cannot do this. But it should be automatically taxable federally as income. If you borrow money and don't pay, it becomes taxable income.

Agreed. It took me an extra 20 hours last year to do my tax return thanks to a $0.14 dividend paid by Canuck mining firm I had bought all of $40 of stocks in.

And I bet those 87,000 new IRS agents Biden has put on the federal payroll are just chomping at the bit to bang poor suckers like you.
I had two IRS tax liens on me over in the County I was living in back around 2006 and 2007 when I was driving trucks cross country.
I called the County Recorder and they told me, "Send a check for $4 and a SASE and we will send copies."
I had credit repair lawyers, Lexington Law, challenge the IRS. They could not prove I owed the tax and were forced to withdraw both liens.
The way it was explained to me by a guy I know in Delaware, "You are not a doctor, lawyer or gun dealer." All of those professions are licensed.
The way I found out about the liens was by checking my Credit Karma. It had two listings under "Public Filings". After the liens were withdrawn the listing changed to zero.
The proof is in the pudding.
Maybe Joe Bannister can enlighten you further on the subject of federal income taxes.
I was a member of Save-A-Patriot Fellowship at that time also. John Kotmair passed away some number of years ago. ;)
