CBS) CHICAGO Community activist and cable television host Sherman Skolnick has died at the age of 73.

Mr. Skolnick died at his home. Some dismissed Mr. Skolnick as a conspiracy theorist, but some have credited him with exposing a bribery scandal within the Illinois court system in the late 1960s and early 1970s, in a corruption scandal that led to the indictment of former Gov. Otto Kerner.

Mr. Skolnick founded the group the Citizen's Committee to Clean up the Courts in 1963. He was also the host of the cable television program Broadside.

Does anyone know why he was in a wheelchair? Was it due to disease or some accident?

I will miss Sherman Skolnick. I first heard his reports on Tom Valentine's Radio Free America back in the late 1980s.

R.I.P. Sherman Skolnick

There's lots of corrupt pols and judges who will now breathe a sigh of relief to have this man out of the picture. Sherman Skolnick was an investigative reporter par excellence and will be sorely missed.

"Our constitution relies on our ... freedom to nourish independent and responsible intelligence and preserve our democracy from that submissiveness, timidity and herd-mindedness of the masses... The priceless heritage of our society is the ... right of each member to think as he will. Thought control is a copyright of totalitarianism, and we have no claim to it. It is not the function of our Government to keep the citizen from falling into error; it is the function of the citizen to keep the Government from falling into error. Robert Jackson, US Supreme Court, 1954

My computer is on the verge of crashing, and I can't get to the full story right now. Does it sound like foul play? He was pursuing several things on Bush, as I recall.

I think he was in a wheelchair because of boyhood polio. He had been in a wheelchair since the 1950's.

Wow. And he accomplished more from that chair than most of us with healthy bodies could ever dream of.

I hope we will see him again.

Thank you, Sherman.

When I first awoke from my political slumber, I became a shortwave addict. Skolnick was a mainstay. Sad. He'll be missed.
