Try as I might over the last weeks, news and commentary is not relevant to this forum.

No problem here, every ship has its course/mission

Now mind you, this is not an opus as I may post a "earth swallowed by a busty lesbian" article as need warrants.

I thank all of you for the consideration and kindness afforded to me at this venue.

Take care and tamp the ground before you.

See ya around.

Brian S...just because people don't post responses doesn't mean you aren't having an impact. I read your posted articles often, but am just as often too busy to post. I know it disappoints when you post something important and get little response. I experience the same disappointment often. Nevertheless, having good, relevant, and revealing articles posted in one place is invaluable. So I hope you'll keep up your good work for all those silent lurkers out there.

What make you say that? This forum doesn't have as many posters as LP, but news and commentary are still relevant to this forum. Yes there are a few disruptors on this forum, but the vast majority appreciates good articles around here.

I do look forward to seeing more of your posts and comments. Please continue posting.

I sincerely believe that is a mistaken perception.

I read most of your news posts. Even though I'd like the news to be different, I do appreciate that you don't make it up and are just posting it for my (our) edification.

I would hope you reconsider and continue posting. The forum is still growing, and it has not yet, IMO, reached critical mass.

Your efforts are appreciated, though perhaps too seldom noted.

Since you've posted your perception and criticism, let me post mine. My observation is that you post your articles but very seldom answer replies to them. There's no other way to keep a thread going other than conversing and answering those who have commented to your article. Few here have the time, including myself, to read and comment to everything posted but let me assure you, we get a lot of hits to this site.

Okay, I admit it. The Hello Kitty® Stratocaster® thread wasn't one of my more redeeming efforts.

But, like others I read much and respond seldom, mainly because you all seem to know each other and butting in doesn't seem like the thing to do.

But, your posts are appreciated if that means anything.

Neil responded in a timely manner with a meaningful question and apparent desire to appreciate your efforts, and Zip and chris both expressed their appreciation.

Mind_Virus posts here in bulk and rarely comments or discusses the topics. He knows folks read his posts, and you should know that we read yours.

Speaking for myself; I prefer to read the articles, digest them, and move on. I'll grant you articles posted at other forums may wind up with several hundred responses, but 90% of those responses are irrelevant fluff, or turn into pissing matches between people who need to get over themselves. Look at the one here the other day between AKA Stone and those lesbian witches...what a snoozer. If I want to hear people yelling and screaming at each other; I can go to a city council meeting when the school budget is being discussed. In that case, there is always the possibility that somebody's clothes might get ripped off. :-)

Brian, I wasn't going to reply to this thread--seriously--but rather just read comments made by others. However, a couple of things were noted I'd like to comment on.

Firstly, I read many articles, and seldom comment. Saying 'ditto' or 'bttt' seem to not be saying much. However, I have noticed in the last couple of weeks, as apparently Chrissie has, too, that seldom, if ever, have I received a comment on whatever I write on threads you initiate.

Truly, this past week I've begun to think 'why bother' if it's only a race to post articles for the sake of posting articles.

Secondly, I don't seem to have as much time on my hands as I have had at different times--lots of demand being made by yardwork and more importantly, studying my Bible.

Thirdly, Neil commented about the effectiveness of a 'number of views' tab. I believe this is a great idea. I happen to read on some horse forums and have been amazed at the number of 'reads' vs the number of comments. An example: someone posts a picture of a newborn foal. There may be 4 comments and 140 views. Or someone poses a question about trimming feet. There may be 5 comments or so, but 300 views!

More telling is that on the one that is more attuned to pleasure horses, there are over 800 registered members (you have to register in order to even read on the board), of which probably 25 post with any sort of regularity. And yet if you look at the number of views, they are in the hundreds. And there are always someone coming on with "I usually lurk but because of the topic I want to add my two cents, or whatever....".

Having a viewership count would/could also be an indicator to thread initiators, and others, as to the "worth" of the article compared to comments written.

Fourthly, loddy was right--there are times you have to lighten up and be silly in order to not lose it! That even occurs on those horse forums I visit-- especially during foaling season.

Fifthly, or finally, yet probably most important, I appreciate all the efforts you've put into locating articles worthy of reading. You did the same yeoman work at TOS2, though most of them knuckle-dragging, kneepadding, didn't have the sense to read the article and attack the content or the doer of the content--they preferred you, the messenger.

I believe this plays a major part here, Brian, because in general we mostly are fairly like-minded in the political, governmental realm.

I do hope you will reconsider what seems to be notice that you won't be around much. Regardless, thank you for what you've done in the past.

Try as I might over the last weeks, news and commentary is not relevant to this forum.

I don't know if this is true. Most people here read the article and I know that many people who rarely post here come often to read.

What might be giving you a bad impression is that the people here pretty much all know each other. They go back a long way. This results in more personal chat than on other news forums. But it doesn't mean that people don't make serious comments on the articles too.

The people here also joke around a lot. This does affect the tone of the forum, but it also brings in lurkers and new members. People will come back again if they see something that makes them laugh. When they come back, they usually read and participate in the serious side of the forum as well.

Had I the power, I would be very reluctant to put an end to the joking around. Something is working here. This forum is very strong and has a high traffic volume for a forum this age. Have Christine show you, it is probably higher than you realize.

And what can the forum owners do anyway? You touch on this and you probably realize they have very little control over what goes up. This is on purpose too. They don't want to decide on content, and the people who post here didn't want that either. So the owners are not really to blame for what goes on. Their feeling is that if someone doesn't like it, they can bozo or scroll by.

A really free forum is also a slightly messy forum. You could tighten up the operation in an hour, but you might then be left with a very orderly two post per day forum.

Good post - thanks for taking the time.

The number of "views" would be a great addition here - sometimes, I just can't bring myself to say ANYTHING - like today's "OMG - My, eyes" post: I read the article and the commentary, but since it will probably put me "off" sex for a month, or so, I chose to move on as quickly as possible, praying that horrible image to leave my mind.
