This isn't what you think] New Jersey Bill 4519 aims to block automakers from charging subscription fees for features preinstalled in your vehicle. And it needs our support! In the next couple of years, we will start seeing more and more car companies trying to follow BMW by charging subscription fees for features like heated seats or even Apple Car play. The problem is the hardware required for the option, is already preinstalled in the vehicle at the time of purchase and there is no visit to the dealer required to enable it. You have to pay a fee for a company like Dodge for example, to push an over the air update to unlock the option. While this may sound like a great option to get a vehicle loaded with options you may or may not get if you purchased a lower trim, this will lead to increased vehicle prices. Each Dodge Charger Daytona, Jeep Wagoneer S, or Ram Revolution EV will have to be fully loaded inorder for Stellantis to have OTA unlocks. Tim Kuniskis confirms you will pay extra for this new direction Stellantis is steering the brands, Software Day confirmed that Stellantis is counting on over 50% of customers to purchase some of their OTA features increasing profits by billions of dollars every year, and Stellantis is laying off their workforce as less people are needed to build electric vehicles. With decreased R&D cost, smaller workforce, less parts required, EV and hybrid prices have skyrocketed! Can a New Jersey Bill pass to block this trend of car companies trying to further increase corporate profits with microtransactions? Bill 4519 looks to stop automakers and dealers from charging subscription fees to use hardware and components already installed at the time of purchase. The bill is still alive and could block attempts to make features like heated seats, heated steering wheels, HP locks, load capacity, track mode, and all the drive modes Dodge claimed would be on the SRT Banshee illegal if they are hidden behind a pay wall! Poster Comment: The automakers have lost their friggin' minds. This is a really shitty deal. They'll do it to ALL new cars if they can.
