We worked a Grunge concert in Chicago. This is the type of show that guys wear black lipstick.
One of them was standing by the rail and looking at the stage. I told one of the guys on the crew, "You see that guy? If he comes down here I will beat the crap out of him."
They didn't sell the seats behind the stage. When the band was going offstage this guy jumped the rail in the corner and starts running along the first row. I paralleled him down below. He tried to jump thru the rail by the ramp.
I came around the corner and stuck out my arm. When he hit my arm the glasses he was wearing went to the tip of his nose and his cap went over his eyes.
My boss was standing on the opposite rear corner of the stage. When he saw that he said, "That was an all pro move."
He told the whole crew I clothes lined some guy that tried to jump on top of the band.
We had a guy by the curtain above the ramp which was backstage entrance. He came down the stairs quick and grabbed up that guy. He took him out thru the curtain and told him,"This is as close as you are going to get to backstage. Show's over. Go home." ROTFLMAO!
I did not say Deerhoof was the same kind of band as the Grunge band.
But we were working New Kids on the Block. They sold every seat in the house.
Band Security wanted me to stand behind Stage Left since there were a couple girls with that spring in their step like they might jump. It was only 5 or 6 feet to the stage.
I was standing in the shadows of the stage. I looked over in the corner and this girl came down the stairs. She slipped into the end of row where nobody was sitting. She started looking over the rail and I'm thinking, "I don't believe it. She's going to jump." Stage stairs were right there.
When lights went down at the end of next song she slipped her leg over the rail.
When she popped up from behind the equipment box I was standing in front of her. She had that look on her face, "Oh shit! I didn't think anyone seen me or would try to stop me." I grabbed her wrist and pulled her out from behind the box. I took her to the stairs and said, "Go back to your seat and don's try that again."
She was caught up in the heat of the moment and wanted to get onstage with her heroes.
My boss Bob and George were standing by the stairs. George said, "Bob, look!" Bob said, "Tex got her!" LOL
