Putin Fires Government Official Who Described Chabad as a Supremacist Cult Soviet Russian President Vladimir Putin has fired a top national security official named Aleksey Pavlov. A couple months back, Pavlov described the Chabad Lubavitch movement in Russia and Ukraine as a supremacist cult. No official reason was given for the Friday dismissal of Pavlov, but we can assume what caused when you consider the fact that Putin himself is a Chabadnik.
Aleksey Pavlov is known for being a pro-war hawk and became infamous for calling for Ukraine to be de-satanized, claiming that the country is home to hundreds of “neo-Pagan” cults. Pavlov included in his list of cults the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, which began in the 18th century in Russia and wields a great deal of power today in both Russia and Ukraine, but considers Putinist Russia to be home base.
Pavlov stated:
“The main principle of the Lubavitch Hasidim is the superiority of the supporters of the sect over all nations and peoples.”
Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine last February, religious rhetoric has been used to support the war, mainly in Russia. Both the heads of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Chabad movement in Russia, Patriarch Krill and Berel Lazar have been some of the most enthusiastic supporters of the conflict referring to it as a Crusade of some sorts. In his article, Pavlov appeared to be channeling this religious view of the conflict, “I believe that with the continuation of the special military operation, it becomes more and more urgent to carry out the desatanization of Ukraine.”
In response to the article, Russia’s chief rabbi, Berel Lazar who is himself a Chabadnik, penned an open letter to Russian authorities, calling for them to condemn Pavlov’s remarks and take swift action.
Berel Lazar is very close to Putin and wields immense influence in both Russia and Israel, not to mention several of the Chabadnik jewish oligarchs in Putin’s inner circle who easily could get someone fired for criticizing their cult. Shortly after Pavlov’s article came out, his superior, Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, issued a follow-up statement calling his assistant’s comments about Chabad false and insulting.
