When I was young, my parents took me to Shriners Hospital in Chicago about four times a year. I still remember being horrified at driving through State Street Corridor on I-95, just south of downtown. That was the Ghetto, with a capital G, put there courtesy of HUD, Mayor Daley, LBJ, and every damned fool who prized handouts over a stake in society.
I think you are confused. The State Street corridor was I-90/94.
Where those CHA high rises were located along there, the Bridge Crew was replacing a handrail. The bullets started to ping off the concrete. They dropped the tools, jumped into the trucks and got out of there darn quick. :-/
