It’s totally wacky, but it looks like this train explosion in East Palestine, Ohio is going to poison the entire Ohio River. The media is covering it up by refusing to make it a story, instead focusing on objects.

This bitch was burning for days. The government didn’t seem interested in putting it out.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released a map this week showing the dispersion of the chemicals from the explosion, showing it going all the way down into the Virginias.

I understand the government started the fire. I initially assumed it was because by burning it the chemical would be converted into some more harmless chemical, though Tucker reports it converts into WW1 mustard gas. Is that worse or better? I don't know. That it may be a means of destroying evidence didn't occur to me but maybe that's the real reason.

According to Alexandra Bruce,

The toxic plume of airborne hydrochloric acid and dioxin from the East Palestine “controlled burn” has a radius of over 200 miles encompassing Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland and Toronto. For the past week, it’s been raining down over some of the most fertile farmland in the United States, killing farm animals and aquatic life.

From what I understand from Redacted, the chemical they burned has a boiling temperature of about 7 degrees F, so it would be boiling into the air anyway, even in the dead of winter. So the decision to do a controlled burn was perhaps to avoid a potentially devastating explosion rivaling that of the Beirut blast a couple years back, or if not that, the Vinyl Cloride or whatever that stuff is, would have simply boiled off into the air poisoning everything anyway. I had assumed at first that burning it would result in less toxic results, though Tucker says that creates mustard gas of WW1 fame. Though maybe mustard gas is less toxic than vinyl chloride. Need a chemist to answer that question.

Another effect of burning is the resulting plume would be carried to altitude by the heat instead of simply drifting at ground level across the local counties. Is that better? Well, maybe. But a disaster all around of epic proportions no matter what they did, excepting perhaps getting some tanks there to pump out and salvage the stuff which maybe wasn't practical.
