GOP lawmakers in the House Oversight and Accountability Committee have launched a probe into Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s response to the chemical spill, claiming the high-ranking official “ignored the catastrophe for over a week.” “This incident is an environmental and public health emergency that now threatens Americans across state lines,” Republicans wrote in a letter to Buttigieg. “The American people deserve answers as to what caused the derailment, and [the Department of Transportation] needs to provide an explanation for its leadership’s apathy in the face of this emergency.” Yes, I’m sure the Republicans have a big plan to help the people of rural Ohio, just like they’ve helped them so much already. Republicans, for example, helped the Democrats move all of their jobs to China and Mexico so that they wouldn’t have to work anymore! Now, Republicans are going to really whine about how they got poison gassed, while begrudingly sending all the money that could be used to help them to the Ukraine to promote gay anal sex with small children. Because that’s who we are. We get things done. We do the deed on a small Russian boy’s asshole. It’s our values. That’s what it means to be a democracy in a rules-based order. Because democracy is not a partisan issue. It’s an American issue. That’s why Republican leaders stand with the Ukraine, even when their voters are being gassed to death and can’t evacuate.
