BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles with the Berezhok module are actively involved in the zone of the special military operation in Ukraine.

The combat module is equipped with a 30-mm automatic cannon, an AG-30 automatic grenade launcher and Kornet anti-tank systems.

Each shell for the M777 costs $53,000. The Javelin costs $175,000 but that includes the launcher which is reusable. The on target rate for them under ideal conditions is not even 19%. The kill rate is even more pathetic. The Javelins sent to Ukraine were mostly over 20 years old. The warhead needs refurbishing every 10 years and the batteries even more often. The ones sent to Ukraine were never refurbished so mostly served to expose the soldiers firing them and getting them killed. The M777 is made out of exotic metals to keep weight down and has a high muzzle pressure for bragging rights about range. This is why the barrel needs replacing after only 200 rounds. At a maximum firing rate of 4 rounds per minute the barrel will need replacing in 50 minutes. All the west's weapons are like this. Mostly made to impress children with specification bragging. HIMARS cost $25 to $55 million each and are being taken out with $2000 drones. No wonder Russia is slow walking this war. They'll bankrupt the west by allowing them to keep bringing in there equipment. Plus the US is paying to support Ukraine because their economy is in collapse. How long before another $100 billion aid package?

Poster Comment:

That F-22 used to shoot down a $12 balloon costs $85,000 an hour to operate. The F-22 needs frequent engine repair so it could never be used in a war zone. The F-22 and the F-35 are inferior to the SU-35. The F-16 turned 49 years-old.

On the bright side, it's never going to get better in the US, just more expensive. Russia is probably still operating on the old Soviet principle of, "Make it good, or else, comrade."

Interesting documentary.

“The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone.
TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people’s door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy…
but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the Men who just wanted to be left alone.”

The US strategic military philosophy seems to be that A) We can always withdraw our military hardware from combat at will; B) Supply lines to all bases will never be interrupted; and C) Cost will never be an issue.

All those things have been true with about every conflict we've been involved with since WW2. But it won't be true for WW3.

Just before George W. Bush's for-the-children ban of most incandescent light bulbs went into effect, I made a lifetime buy of old-timey 60 watt bulbs. But they're expiring a lot faster than I anticipated, and probably won't last if I live longer than another 4 or 5 more years. I hate LED light bulbs.

I hate LED light bulbs.

LEDs are coming along, but I've probably got a lifetime supply of CFLs in the dungeon. You have to know colors now. I only like warm white color.

I had a buddy give me a box of GE LED bulbs 760 lumens, (60W equiv?), 10W, WW, they're pretty good. I haven't put one on my Wattmeter to see what the power factor is. That matters with the bullshit new "Smart Meters," I think they're charging for apparent wattage unlike the old mechanical meters. My electric bill went way up after I&M forced a smart meter on me under threat of disconnect or jail.
