Credit: Alexander J. Williams III/Popacta. MARCH 7, 2023 | Alexander J. Williams III Politics and Culture House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave Tucker Carlson Tonight an exclusive preview of security camera footage from the Capitol Building, which had been concealed from the public for over two years. On Monday, Carlson shared snippets of the footage that feature key individuals from the January 6th incident. Speaker McCarthy provided over 40,000 hours of security camera footage, of which three sets were released to Fox News and Carlson. Recently released security camera footage from the Capitol Building has led many to call for the release of the January 6th protestors. The footage shows a different reality than what was previously presented by the Congressional January 6th committee to the American public. The first batch of the footage shows Trump supporters peacefully touring the building, but the coverage of the rioters overwhelmingly consumed the news on Jan. 6. Many in D.C. have compared the events to 9/11 and the attack on Pearl Harbor, insinuating that the January 6th protest was a large-scale attack on the country. However, as a result of the footage released, much of the narrative surrounding the January 6th protestors has changed, putting the left on the defense. Claims that the protestors were armed have been shown to be largely false or exaggerated, as any object they held was taken into the context of a deadly weapon when used for the purpose of attacking someone, such as a flag pole or other large object that many were innocently holding. The footage also shows Capitol police officers escorting Jacob Chansley, widely referred to in the liberal media as the QAnon Shaman, around the building without incident. Officers were seen showing Chansley around, even trying to open locked doors for him. At least nine police officers were in close proximity to Chansley, but none of them slowed him down, as reported by Carlson. Afterward, Chansley was taken into custody and charged with federal crimes for unlawfully entering or staying in a restricted building or premises, and for engaging in violent and disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds. As a result, he was given a prison sentence of nearly four years, a sentence that is uncommon for a non-violent offender. Carlson would go on to ask: If he was in fact committing such a grave crime, why didnt the officers who were standing right next to him place him under arrest? In the second batch of previously unreleased footage related to the events of January 6th at the US Capitol. The focus of this footage was to challenge the narrative promoted by Democrats and the media that the day constituted a deadly insurrection. One aspect of this narrative was the supposed death toll among police officers, who were said to have died as a result of injuries sustained during the riot. However, Carlson noted that most of these officers died by suicide in the days and weeks after January 6th, while others died of natural causes. The only person who was actually killed on that day was Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran and Trump supporter, who was shot by a Capitol police officer. Another key figure in the media coverage of January 6th was Officer Brian Sicknick, who was alleged to have been attacked by the mob and who, it was falsely claimed, died as a result of being hit in the head with a fire extinguisher. However, Carlsons footage showed Sicknick walking normally while guiding Trump supporters out of the building, wearing a helmet. This would appear to contradict the media narrative that Sicknick died of a head injury. Carlson also argued that the alleged threats of violence on January 6th had been exaggerated, and that the vast majority of protesters were entirely peaceful and harmed no one. The footage he presented seemed to support this assertion, showing very little violence or aggression from the vast majority of those present. Carlson concluded that the new footage he had presented demonstrated that lawmakers and the media had been lying about the events of January 6th, and that the truth was very different from the story that had been promoted. Carlson would go on to tell his viewers: This tape overturns the single most powerful and politically useful lie that Democrats told us about January 6th. Carlson would then emphasize that Sicknick was wearing a helmet during the alleged attack, and that he was seen walking around the Capitol completely normally and unharmed following when he was alleged to have been assaulted and killed. As Carlson noted, the footage of Sicknick had an electronic bookmark in the Capitol archives, alleging the Jan. 6th House Select Committee had reviewed it and chose not to include it in its widely publicized hearings and the final report. Carlson then added: They lied about the police officer they claimed to revere, If they were willing to do that, then their dishonesty knew no limits. In the third batch of previously unseen footage related to the events of January 6th at the US Capitol. This footage featured Ray Epps, the man who was caught on camera urging Trump supporters to enter the Capitol the night before the riot. According to Carlson, the footage showed Epps on the Capitol grounds at least 30 minutes after the time he claimed to have been heading back to his hotel in a text to his nephew, a false claim that could constitute a crime in itself. The fact that Epps has not faced any criminal charges has led some to speculate that he may have coordinated with the FBI leading up to the riot. This lack of action against Epps has fueled suspicion among critics of the governments handling of the January 6th events. Many people are now arguing that those who perpetuated the narrative of January 6th as a violent insurrection should face legal consequences of their own, possibly even imprisonment. Critics argue that many of the protesters who were arrested were not charged until later, when it became politically expedient to do so in order to push a narrative against right-wing Americans who are anti-establishment or who support former President Donald Trump. In an alternative American reality where elected officials and mainstream media were impartial and unbiased, awards would be given based solely on exceptional works of journalism, rather than for fabricating stories to support the political elite. In this world, Tucker Carlson would have deserved a Pulitzer Prize for his efforts in exposing the false narrative surrounding the January 6th protest. Unfortunately, we live in a world where journalists are being awarded for reporting on the confirmed hoax of the Donald Trump Russian collusion, which stemmed from his 2016 presidential election win. It is clear that our media landscape has become increasingly politicized and sensationalized, with little regard for objective reporting or journalistic integrity. In this environment, those who report the truth and challenge the prevailing narrative are often vilified and marginalized, while those who toe the party line and pander to the powerful are rewarded. Tucker Carlsons efforts to uncover the truth about the events of January 6th should be commended. While he may not receive the recognition he deserves in our current media climate, his work will undoubtedly stand the test of time as a shining example of what true journalism should be, as this released footage could aid many political prisoners in the legal battles following the January 6th protests.
