With decentralized crypto, neither the gov nor any other entity, private or public, has the ability to steal funds or restrict ability of anyone to spend or receive funds from any other person at all.
The real threat is the govt having the ability to decide what you can and can't buy according to their whims with CBDCs.
I had an incident a few weeks ago when Chase (JPM) cut off my credit card after I had made several purchases of gun parts. It turned out they shut it off because somebody was running around in Ubers using my CC info in another city (they wouldn't tell me where) and Chase fraud protection shut off the card. It might've been nice had they notified me. Chase and others had announced plans to single out firearm/ammo purchases with special "coding" not long ago.
I was at Kroger with a $200 tab when I found out the card was declined. Fortunately, I had just gotten a GS Marcus card for just such a situation. Supposedly the CC companies are backing off the idea of singling out what you can and can't buy. We'll see.
