If we get hit the variable is where it hits. An ocean stike will launch a tsunami which will wipe out all of the coastal areas, and miles inland, from where the tsunami makes landfall. Look at Randall Carlson's videos on Youtube. Or visit kosmographia.com .

The people to ask to help save the planet would be the Russians. They have better rockets. And they have adult rulers.

Oh, if it hits it is not a planet killer, but it is a civilization killer. It could set off planetary wide cataclysms including a crustal shift such as was theorized by the late Professor Charles Hapgood in his book "The Path of The Poles". That was probably part of the ancient apocalpyse that wiped out the rising civilization and megafauna at the end of the last ice age. See Graham Hancock's 8 part series "Ancient Apocalypse" on NETFLIX.

My other thought is that whichever major power is going to be in the path of the asteroid strike might launch a full salvo at their adversaries just before it hits.

Oh, if it hits it is not a planet killer, but it is a civilization killer.

At least GayZ won't have the satisfaction of causing it theyself.

They are so brainwashed by the Tee Bee and Online PsyOps that they will probably never know what hit them.

P.T. Barnum was right.

As was Mark Twain. The following quote is so true and is often attributed to him:

“It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they’ve been fooled.”

It seems there is no risk to earth, as it's expected to pass about 1/2 the distance from the earth to the moon, or about 120,000 miles at closest approach. That is about 15 earth diameters away. That is indeed close in astronomical terms but if the earth was the size of a basketball, this would miss it by about 12 feet.

That is indeed close in astronomical terms...

Probably about the height of a trillion one dollar bills (one 30th of the national debt) stacked up.

Wanna get astronomical? Line 'em up end to end.

Ran some numbers. The 2013 meteor that hit Russia was about 2% of the size of this one and delivered a blast of about 14 kilotons. So this one would be about 50 times stronger or about 26 megatons, on par with a modest nuclear bomb.

There would be some variables. We are assuming the density is the same. If it's more or less dense there'd be more or less energy released. There's also a potential speed variance. If it's only going half the speed, the energy would be reduced by 75% if my physics is right, or if double the speed it would be 4x greater.

All in all, a fun event for the whole family.

FWIW, 26 megatons is a pretty big bang. At the peak of the Cold War, I think the biggest were about 20 megatons. The Tsar Bomba that the Russians set of was 50 megatons, downgraded from 100 MT. Anything bigger than that, I guess the blast is dissipated into space.

Duck & cover is useless. If you're close-coupled (standing, laying) to the ground, the shockwave will liquify your bones. I had a talk with my Godson about that last week. I told him, "you want to be spared the horror of survival."

That's why I built my house a half mile away from a primary target. The target moved across town, but that probably won't matter.

You ever need cheered up again, you know how to find me.

Thank you for the data. I was not assuming it would hit us but the prospect of such an event is disconcerting. That the criminals in the District of Corruption would keep the data from the public is discomforting. Although I would expect pathological liars to lie.

The problem of course is that a cometary impact at the end of the last Ice Age is most likely what killed off the Clovis culture along with the megafauna. Take a look at Randall Carlson's Kosmographia podcast for more data. Graham Hancock has been doing a lot of research on this as well.

Another good reference is the late Charles Hapgood's theories (endorsed by Einstein who wrote the forward to his book - available on Adventures Unlimited Press' website or Amazon) regarding crustal displacement and shifting of the geographic poles.

We have had, on Planet Earth, 2 or 3 advanced civilizations before our own. There is plenty of evidence to support that contention even if the Establishment academicians do not want to consider it.

a modest nuclear bomb

My favorite kind!

FWIW, Wikipedia allows the 2013 Russian meteor 400–500 kilotons of TNT, and this new one 4.8 megatons.

The Soviets developed a 100 megaton bomb. Modern Nukes using MIRVs carry about that much but in smaller packages.

The bomb dropped over Hiroshima was about 15 Kilotons.

The Tunguska meteorite in the early part of the Twentieth Century was about the same.

I realized my calcs were off somehow but was hoping no one would notice!

But the yield will vary significantly with the speed.
