Congressional Republicans blasted the Democrats’ plans to arrest former President Donald Trump next week over a case related to porn star Stormy Daniels, calling the effort a political witch hunt and pledging to launch investigations into the matter.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy began by calling for a congressional probe into whether federal funds are being used to “subvert democracy” with “politically motivated prosecutions” given that Trump is the leading Republican presidential candidate for 2024.
“Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump,” McCarthy tweeted Saturday. “I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions.”
