This plane costs $115.5 million to buy.
The F-35 costs $44,000 an hour to fly, or $44 million to fly for 1,000 hours, or $352 million over the 8,000 hour lifespan of the jet. Thats more than twice as much as other jets such
I think the theory on the F-35 is that it's strength is mainly in stealth. Trying to do combats like it's an F-18 will get you shot down, and pilots that transfer to it don't initially do as well with it as fresh pilots trained on it from scratch.
That's the theory. But if it only costs $44,000 per hour to fly, it's about half the cost of the F-22.
I think the next major war will start out being high tech but after a month, all these planes will be off line due to maint issues as supply lines all get seriously blown up or interrupted. There will be something to be said about low tech militaries.
The F-35 is not really stealthy to array radars like the S-400. And $44,000 times 8,000 hours is a lot of money for a plane that is 150 mph slower than an SU-35. Russia has an air to air missile that can take out NATO planes at 400 kilometers.
I worked at a Marine air base in the 90's, we were to get the F-35 by the mid 90's, I left in 2000, no F-35's. 10 years later an F-35 showed up was taken to a hanger, locked away with an armed guards.
