From the comments section, women have said how they were protected by their dogs. The Kangal has the greatest psi bite force of any dog breed. One woman let her dog out on a burglar who was trying to escape from her neighbor's house by going through her yard.
I have been researching dogs for rural areas. Sheep school for dogs costs $600. Chicken school is $400. But mama dogs train their puppies for free. If you have no children, you might want to invite kids over to play with the puppies to acclimate them to humans.
Alternatively, donkeys make great herd protectors but they do not like wet climates like mine.
