National News See other National News Articles Title: Democrat Governor Signs “Red Flag” Law (in Detroit) Democrat Governor Signs “Red Flag” Law 26 May 2023 (RepublicanJournal.org) – Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed a new anti-gun “red flag” law on Monday, May 22. The legislation comes in response to the state’s second deadly mass shooting this year. It allows individuals close to potential shooters to raise concerns over mental health issues that, left unchecked, might prove lethal. Michigan joined California, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New York, and 15 other states in establishing the firearm regulation, according to Newsmax. It follows at the heels of Minnesota, which signed similar legislation last week and added required background checks for prospective gun purchases. The Associated Press reported that Whitmer signed the new law into effect in Detroit, a hotbed for gun violence in the state. Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D), who sustained a headshot wound in 2011, leaving her with brain damage, attended the event. Numerous progressive lawmakers and survivors of shattering gun violence joined her. Poster Comment: When we drove solo for IWX out of Springfield, we had a regular produce drop in Detroit. It was always a Midnight appointment time. One night I was sitting on side street waiting to get into the dock and a black girl walked up to truck wanting to talk. All of a sudden, four guys came running off that dock. They beat the crap out of the black girl and a black guy that was sneaking up on blind side of truck. When the finished they threw them both out in middle of busy street. I hollered at them, "ARE YOU GOING TO LEAVE THEM THERE?" They hollered back, "DARN RIGHT WE ARE. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO TO YOU." And after word of that got around, nobody else went over there screwing around either. The Italians in that produce house were pretty darn tough.
