I stll recall the woman I met in the mountains - Bow Hunting For Elk. I have always thought of her as the "Cover Girl" for "Soldier Of Fortune". Cammies, War Paint, and All. Tall, muscular, and deadly. Nothing at all like the current 1st Hooker.

"In Greek mythology, the Amazons were a race of warlike women noted for their riding skills, courage, and pride, who lived at the outer limits of the known world, sometimes specifically mentioned as the city of Themiskyra on the Black Sea."

She did.

She did.

Did she get an Elk or not?

I picked up a load of Mexican produce in Yuma, Arizona when I drove for IWX. I was heading for the Indian casino in New Mexico to take my break. They had a restaurant and rest rooms.

Just about dusk I was on 2-lane road in New Mexico. I came around a curve and the headlights fell on a brown object in the road. IT WAS AN ELK!

I hit the brakes and moved as far right as possible without dropping the steer tire off the pavement. I just missed hitting it.

So I put out a broadcast on the CB there were Elk out here.

Some driver comes back and says, "Elk! I haven't seen Elk in a long time."

I told him, "You don't want to see these Elk, driver. They are too close to the road. I almost hit one." ;)

My Great Aunt used to serve the tastiest elk patties for breakfast. YUM!!!

As for the huntress I don't know if she got her elk or not. I was busy chasing Red Band Rainbow Trout. I would not have bet against her though.

Diana, Greek Goddess of The Hunt, would have claimed her as one of her Warrior Handmaidens.

Funny story - I grew up partially in small town Montana. The neighbors would drive 200 miles to bag an elk. My father, raised on a Reservation, scouted out above the town and located an Elk Herd he said was of at least 19 head by his count.

It is just outside of Billings next to the Crow (where my Uncles used to go poaching) which is now known as the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. Although I have also Assiniboine from my Paternal Great Grandmother, and Sioux or Cheyenne from my Paternal Grandmother. She was a beautiful woman - I had a copy of their 1903 Wedding Photo for years.
