what about gas heat? There are a lot of people that have gas heaters.

In Chicago most single family homes are gas heaters. Some older homes use fuel oil and larger apartment buildings the boiler goes out at night and temps in apartments drop.

When we were kids we would stand in front of the open over door to warm up in the morning. ;)
