H-1B Visas To Be Doubled

May 29, 2006 11:30 a.m. EST

Jacob Cherian - All Headline News Contributor

Washington DC (AHN) - The U.S. Senate has approved a landmark immigration reform bill that would give citizenship to millions of illegal persons and double the number of H1B visas from the present 65,000.

The Press Trust of India reports that this move could greatly benefit thousands of Indian software professionals.

The bill provides for doubling the H-1B visas to 115,000 and with a 2- percent increase on an annual basis.

Various software and technology companies like Microsoft and Intel have been pressuring the U.S. Government by threatening to move jobs abroad if it does not raise the cap on H-1B visas to allow more skilled workers into the country.

US Immigration Bill: Stage set for showdown in Congress

An immigration victory

Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., defended the legislation -- approved Thursday -- that provides a means for 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to become citizens. He pointed out that the first half of the 730-page bill deals solely with border enforcement.

Democrats 38 for, 4 against. 90% for!

GOP...24 for 38 again........43% for!

61% of the YES votes were cast by-------Democrats!

The only point I proved is that a GOP controlled HOUSE and SENATE introduced two terrible immigration bills.

Despite the upcoming elections, the GOP still voted for these in large enough #s for them to pass, which is ALL THAT WAS REQUIRED.

The rest could skate and look good to their constituents.

Americans are the losers here, and both sides of the aisle don't give a damn about American citizens.

The 2 parties are 1.

Wake up!!!

And the whole thing was put on the floor by the Republicans. The Democrats, having no control over the agenda, could never have done this.

The Republicans did it and then allowed their members up for election to bag out of the vote - thus fooling feeble minded goobers like alwaysontheright.

I assume that you voted a straight GOP ticket.

How does it feel to be used like a fool? Recall that it is the GOP who put this in place.

Exactly what I tried to say in my post above, but not as succinctly as you put it.

SO WHY DID THE DEMOCRATS VOTE YES! Most of the yes votes in the senate---61% -- -were cast by Democrats!

In HR 4437, the bill that was for border enforcement and NO AMNESTY, the Democrats voted overwhelmingly against.

Bottom line: Democrats are the party of illegal aliens. Our only hope is the GOP House!

Why did the Democrats----defender of the little guy---vote overwhelmingly to allow 20 million more illegals in and drive down wages??

And what about HR 4437? Where everyone is up for election?

Democrats overwhelmingly opposed!

illegals vote Democrat, many liberals are sympathetic to illegals

Enough Republicans voted Yes to ensure the bill passed.

And as pointed out, the GOP controls both houses, they allowed these bills to be introduced.

Bottom line: Democrats are the party of illegal aliens. Our only hope is the GOP House!

Bottom line: BOTH parties are the party of the illegal aliens. The GOP's corporate interests demand they keep guest workers, the liberals as I already pointed out, like the way they vote.

Watch Dubai Dubya sign the very worst of these 2 bills into law. Just wait.

The only thing you proved is that the actual facts do not matter to you in the least.

In both the Senate and House bills, Democrats have voted overwhelmingly to support Mexico!

Sorry, Robin, controlling the chamber does not mean telling the opposition how to vote!

Wake up--if the US is to remain a great and prosperous nation, we must rely on the GOP House.

Not the goofy president, or the RINOs, or the stupid Democrats.

The GOP House is our only hope!

No. Not if the GOP House prevails. If Tancredo and the other conservatives--- all Republicans---do what they say they will, there will be nothing for Duyba to sign.

No compromise, no immigration reform. If there is compromise, amnesty will come out!

To the larger question: Why are Democrats overwhelmingly in favor of granting citizenship to 20 million illegal aliens?

The GOP can sell this one to the voters, but it won't be what Dubai Dubya ends up signing.

The only thing you proved is that the actual facts do not matter to you in the least.

That's simply not true, nor is there any evidence to support that.

You don't like the clear and concise logic used here to explain the voting habits of the GOP.

controlling the chamber does not mean telling the opposition how to vote!

No, they control what is introduced. Both sides voted to pass the Senate version, and that will be much closer to what Dubai Dubya signs.

Not HR4437, that allowed an escape valve for those who are up for re-election. As did voting No to the Senate version, even though enough GOP voted Yes for it to pass.

This is an orchestrated game being played out for you and others like you. No wonder it keeps working.
