GOP ramps up battle with the White House and federal government - with the party divided on impeachment House Republicans are eyeing stripping the salaries of some of their main targets in the Biden administration as impeachment of these officials remains a divisive topic in the caucus.
The Holman Rule dates back to 1876 and is an obscure legislative power that allows lawmakers to reduce, or even strip the salaries of specific federal employees.
Kevin McCarthy decided before becoming House Speaker earlier this year to reinstate the Holman Rule after it remained dormant under the prior Democratic majority Congress. This sets the stage for top leaders to back the move to strip salaries and effectively fire members of Biden's team.
The possible targets could see their salaries zeroed-out with use of the Holman Rule are Attorney General Merrick Garland, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Christopher Wray and even investigators working for Justice Department's Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is in charge of the classified documents case against Donald Trump.
