as officials warn nearby dam could FAIL because of 'tidal wave' rains that dropped 7 INCHES in less than 24 hours - with another deluge on the way

The Vermont capital has been cut off by 'life-threatening' catastrophic floods which are now threatening to break the city's dam, as forecasters warn more rain is on the way.

More than seven inches of water swamped Montpelier over 22 hours - breaking meteorologists' predictions of 6 inches over 24 hours - as 'tidal wave' rains ravaged the capital and left residents trapped in their homes.

Torrential downpours swept the wider North East this week and Vermont was labeled as the 'highest risk' state by the National Weather Service.

Following 7.33 inches of rain recorded in Montpelier on Monday up to 9.30pm, further showers came overnight, and the service warned more is on the way.

The good news is that now the rain is headed toward Quebec.

Meanwhile, we're at 103/112, dry as a bone with no relief in sight for the next week.

The good news is that now the rain is headed toward Quebec.

A few years ago it rained for three days nonstop. Water came up over 12th St at Muddy Creek and water was flowing over the road on 1st St.

It is still fairly dry but we had a shower the other morning and there was a puddle on the folding chair in front of my place. That shower did not make the cracks in the ground disappear, though. ;)

We have been having August weather for the past 3 weeks: hot, humid with thunderstorms.

My relatives in Arizona say that August is monsoon month. Is that also true of Texas?

Typically, August is our hottest, driest, month of all.

My relatives in Arizona

I went to pick up my Dad in Tucson over Easter weekend and it snowed the day we left. I was driving an old Nissan pickup that must have had a blown head since oil was being sucked into the air cleaner.

We tied his bed on the back of the truck, and wouldn't you know some trucker said on the CB, "Wouldn't you know it would snow the day you move your bed." But that desert air dried it out darn quickly. ;)
