A company called Ubicquia is partnering with law enforcement to make it easier for cops to track people's every move with new "smart" street lights that have been outfit with hidden license plate readers (LPR).

This is a step up from the red light cameras. Big Brother is coming to your neighborhood. Don't be surprised if they come up with a way to spy on you in your own homes. ;)

I think the original idea behind license plates was to thwart car theft.
