Title: How the Red Cross Raised Half a Billion Dollars for Haiti and Built Six Homes

In late 2011, the Red Cross launched a multimillion-dollar project to transform the desperately poor area, which was hit hard by the earthquake that struck Haiti the year before. The main focus of the project — called LAMIKA, an acronym in Creole for “A Better Life in My Neighborhood” — was building hundreds of permanent homes.

Today, not one home has been built in Campeche. Many residents live in shacks made of rusty sheet metal, without access to drinkable water, electricity or basic sanitation. When it rains, their homes flood and residents bail out mud and water.

The Red Cross received an outpouring of donations after the quake, nearly half a billion dollars.

The group has publicly celebrated its work. But in fact, the Red Cross has repeatedly failed on the ground in Haiti. Confidential memos, emails from worried top officers, and accounts of a dozen frustrated and disappointed insiders show the charity has broken promises, squandered donations, and made dubious claims of success.

The Red Cross says it has provided homes to more than 130,000 people. But the actual number of permanent homes the group has built in all of Haiti: six.

And that's why I support the Salvation Army.

My mother told me that the Red Cross asked people to donate cigarettes for servicemen overseas during WW II. The Red Cross got free US military shipping but charged the men for the cigarettes.

And that's why I support the Salvation Army.

I used to give a lot to the Concordia Lutheran Seminary until I was walkin' alone. My charities aren't tax deductible anymore. My primary charity is a twelve year-old girl who got the shit-end-of-the-stick with a crackhead mother. Her dad [and my lawyer] has her away from the groomers. For now.

If she survives, me and Sling Blade should enlist her in the Marines. She's used to it.

My VaxMentia buddy RainMan wants $60,000 for a new swimming pool that he uses about two hours a year. He's pretty far down on the list. With Bidet's new tax rules, he'd end up with about $1.50 for the project anyway.

I went to see my tax-babe, Christa today. Now that Bob, the former honcho got dusted off by clot-shots and Christa is the Boss, she's replaced all the old hags with swimsuit models. Just kidding, everybody's still there, Bob's OM still has the corner office as a courtesy.

I remember Bob Jr. giving me a hard time after Christa and the crew had to rescue me after TurboTax fucked up leaving off my ObamaCare stuff, something else happened I can't remember, then my younger sister's estate dumped a bunch of money on me and my older sister that was supposed to go back to the taxpayers, but didn't. (I've been trying to give the money away).

I was scared, they helped me through it. I sent everybody Sherri's Berries, flowers, etc. Bob said, :You shut my business down for an hour without even being here."

"Put it on my next bill."

He didn't make it to the next bill, he was teasing anyway. I was keeping his "little people" happy.

I don't need to be rescued too often, Christa did it, everybody gets a hand up when I go in. Period.

A lot of the smokes (I don't know how many) were packed in the C-ratitions or what ever they were called.

My Dad did time in the Pacific Theater.

You might be wrong about WWII, I don't know. My Dad never talked much to me. He'd just give me looks. He died when I was 14.

That is what my mother said. These cigarettes were not part of C rations. They were at USO.
