The mayor could ask Zelensky for some of that money New Yorkers paid to him to be returned. Add a little note saying we can't afford you any more.

First drinkable water most of the migrants have ever been near.

“I am not one of those weak-spirited, sappy Americans who want to be liked by all the people around them. I don’t care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do. The important question is whether they are in a position to do anything about it. My affections, being concentrated over a few people, are not spread all over Hell in a vile attempt to placate sulky, worthless shits.” - William S Burroughs

127 years old.... that would be 1896 which is older than the airplane. Gotta hand it to them back in the day for making a pipe that could last that long.

Ever seen those big wooden water tanks on tall buildings in New York City? They fascinate me.

Whoa! and thank you.

The only movie I ever went to with my father (d. 5Apr1976) was the "Towering Inferno."

The premise was putting out a fire in a huge skyscraper in San Francisco, I think, by blowing up massive million gallon water tanks on the top floor to put the fire out.

I remember my father saying that was bullshit [he was working in EW1 (Active electronic warfare] at Magnavox) now Raytheon.

Knowing what I know now, that seems to be a crappy idea in an earthquake zone. The tech now could use that to an advantage, maybe, but I recall the tanks being fixed to the floor. Been a long time.

Lotta big stars in that flicker show. Maybe that's why Dad took me.

“The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone.
TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people’s door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy…
but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the Men who just wanted to be left alone.”

Years ago I saw a longer video that showed more detail about how the tanks are made. But this gives a good overview.

It was NYC, not SF. I used to work in that building which taught the fireman that their hoses could not reach beyond the 10th floor and that elevators were a death trap.

Interesting!

Do you know how high the ladder trucks can reach?

BTW, South Carolina gave New York City a new fire truck after the World Trade Center disaster in 2001. -- In appreciation of New York City's having given a new fire truck to Columbia, South Carolina after US troops under the command of W.T. Sherman burned Columbia to the ground on February 17, 1865.
