About 10 years ago I submitted a quote to design a battery management system (BMS) for a Chinese electric car company. This company was going to be the "Tesla of China". The company I did the quote for bought a Tesla car, and removed the battery, current sensor module, and BMS for me to examine. I didn't get the job; they told me that the Chinese company decided to design the BMS themselves. In China.
