Well, I spent my first weekend with the border group I have just joined. I had been a member of Friends of the Border Patrol, but didn't quite agree with some of the politics. I would mention the name of this new group, but they do not want media attention at this point. They will be announcing their existence next month at an open house, but right now they are only interested in locating major illegal alien crossing points and gathering intelligence to find out where they lay up until vehicles come to get them.
When I got there Friday, everyone had already gone to the field, so I just helped at the operations center installing a radio in a vehicle, monitoring radios, sweeping floors, and eventually taking a vehicle out to help extract the two man teams that were in the field.
Saturday, we had a morning briefing and were dropped off along a dirt road and hike up the side of a rocky outcropping and monitored the area for about three hours. On the way up, we came across staging areas where the illegals wait and do their part to destroy our environment. We later moved from there and hiked closer to the border and set-up again. All in all it was uneventful, but it was fun. When we returned to the operations center, the entire group had been invited to the house of one of the locals for a Thank-you bbq. After that, six of us geared up and went out on a night operation for intelligence gathering. They wanted to know if the illegals stayed on a north south movement pattern or followed the train track out of the area.
We were split into two three man teams and dropped off at 9:30 p.m., and hiked along the tracks until we found an area to lay up and monitor the tracks without being seen. The three man group I was with went east and the other went west. We set-up and with the aid of night vision goggles, monitored the area for illegal traffic. I slept from 11:45 until 2 a.m. on a nice piece of granite. When I woke up for a shift change, it was decided by the team leader that if we didnt see any traffic, we would relocate after 4 a.m. I heard a woman scream around 3:50, but never saw any illegals along the tracks. I woke the other two up at 4:30 and we packed up and moved out along the tracks. We headed in the direction of the scream to see what we could find. As we were walking, I heard voices in the trees, so we laid down on the tracks to survey the situation. Since I speak Spanish, it became quite obvious that it was two drunken Mexicans singing bar songs. As I surveyed the area with the NVGs, I saw a group of twelve illegals come out of the tree line heading toward our position. As the group leader began to call in our GPS location to the operations center, we heard some more noises below us. We peered over the tracks and there were seven more Future Voters of America 20 ft. below us. We moved down the tracks, allowed them to pass and by giving our location to the Border Patrol, we were hopefully able to give these 19 illegals a warm meal and shower at the expense of the U.S. taxpayers. We did not hear if they were or werent picked up.
From there we went to our extraction point and met a few overzealous Americans from another border group and I found myself staring down the wrong end of an AR-15 as I was being asked who I was. The chance of fratricide was probably the only real danger I faced this weekend.
As we were being driven back to the operations center, a couple of Future Voters ran across the road in front of us and we slowed down, saw eight more under a tree. We called in to the Border Patrol, and waited for an agent to arrive. He allowed us to help him track the illegals over a 2 mile chase and watch as they were apprehended.
From there we went back to the operations center and started repairs on a vehicle that broke a shock mount. While we were doing that, we were given word by the owner of the ranch that there were two illegals on the property. We went out and searched for them, but did not find them. We were able to find their packs and laid out the contents for photos. All contents were then destroyed. If you look at the photos, you will notice a small black bag with some white powder in it. This belonged to one of the folks that GWB says will be an asset to this Nation.
The weekend ended around 5 p.m. and I headed home. Having been awake since 2 a.m., and operating on two hours of sleep, I drove home, unpacked, and went to bed.
Below you will see some photos I took, they include shots of Mexico, the fence that the Minutemen were building, the border fence, the trash left behind by illegals, and the contents of the two backpacks we located.
