When James R. Thompson was re-elected for his second term in Illinois, my Committeeman chose me to go to the Governor's Mansion as his representative for a dinner provided by the Republicans. It was in the wintertime and our job required us to be available to do snowplowing and such on the state highways. I got a break in the weather that was favorable for me to go without a hitch. ;)
