I'm not sure that PMs are the thing to be buying right now. They've been stuck in a narrow range forever and haven't tracked inflation at all. Gold should be over $4,000 now. After Bidet did that thing with Venmo (or whatever it was) making any transaction reportable to the IRS above $600, there's no reason to believe that he wouldn't do that with PMs.
If the shit hits the fan, I doubt my local coin dealer Solly would be around in a civil war type scenario. Shipping PMs is a hassle and expensive as hell to insure it.
IMHO, silver would be a better bet now. At $22/oz, it has some utilitarian value for trade and IMO has more upside potential to hold. How often do you buy something for $1,800 per whack? My mechanic, Chip, notwithstanding.
FWIW, Costco's prices were about the same as Apmex when I checked yesterday. It wasn't a deal.
I'm not sure what people are thinking. That playing games with the cashback on a credit card is some real cheesedick loser shit. I'd be more worried about food and water and how the hell I'm gonna flush my toilets if I was Mr. Average Citizen.
I listened to some of that stuff, they pretty much came to the same conclusions I did.

Of course the dollar value of is manipulated for PMs. Cryptos may not be immune either but they are harder to manipulate.
I don't see any Mad Max post apocalyptic scenario though. Things will get messed up but they will keep ticking. Russia went through that and as a country survived. City people will be the worst off and will see the highest attrition though.

I don't really either, but seen Philly lately?

Albeit at a greatly reduced rate. Bidet's grab at Venmo or whatever it was has me concerned. It would be easy to do that with bullion sales.
City people will be the worst off and will see the highest attrition though.
I'm in a dem city (pop. 260,000) and now surrounded by illegals, Mexico, Venezuela, Burma. So far I haven't had any problems, my reputation from 2008 seems to be pretty durable (Blew a guy's head off that attacked me). I won't get away with that again regardless of the circumstance.

MDs won't see me after the lawsuit and I don't have teeth. The only way I can get medical care if I arrive at the ER in an ambulance, which I also have insurance for.
and soon to be -- groceries!
We'll be in a civil war at that point.
You'd be surprised how much that TRAA ambulance insurance has saved me since 2013. O'boingoCare, not so much.

I hadn't had a steak for weeks, maybe a couple of months, because my wife refuses to buy anything that she considers grossly overpriced, and nowadays that's most things at the grocery store.
So a couple of weeks ago I decided to celebrate some minor victory or achievement here -- can't remember just what it was, but it seemed to do -- with a good steak. So I drove myself to town (like Esso, I don't get outside of the wire much these days) to buy myself a rib-eye steak to grill. Had to buy a two-pack; they didn't have a single.
$41 for two no-so-thick steaks!
All that said, I'm thankful that I can still afford an occasional steak. I know that there are a lot of people who can't.
(like Esso, I don't get outside of the wire much these days)
I don't think I've been out of here since last Sunday when I went to help (more like advise and supply some specialty tools) a buddy repair his toy hauler trailer.
My sister called me just as I was getting ready to leave. "What are you doing?"
"Going to help a buddy out."
"Not Rainman?"
"No, I can't stand being around him with his vaxmentia unless I have to."
"I thought you lost all your [local] friends to the clot-shots."
"Most of them, there's still a couple left."
Maybe that's what I need, a fat gal with a make-believe cello.

I cook over lump charcoal average of five days of the week I do steaks when I don't have time to slow cook brisket or leg quarters. my 14 hens keep me in eggs to eat and enough to sell to buy their next meals.

It was ~$2,000 when I paid Chip for the repairs on red truck. It's never been there since, I don't think.
I feel bad about that and the trouble clown car is causing him.
I'd love to ask him "WTF is going on?" but whining isn't gonna get parts from Germany here any faster, and it might piss him off.
I did hear through the grapevine that he appreciates my patience.
Hey, he's got real people with jobs that depend on him. I'm just playing with a toy. Real folks need him first.

How do you embed those EweToob shorts? I can't figure it out. I think it might be my Chrome browser.

better still one of the hens went broody so I let a couple of my roosters run with the hens in about ten more days I'll see what becomes of the fifteen eggs she is sitting on.

You'd have to be one, tough-ass MFer to hang in the Trump family. I don't think I could've handled that pressure in the best of days.
That was cool.

About 15 years ago one of our hens that we thought we had lost led about a dozen chicks up from the woods.
I thought those domesticated chickens had lost the brooding instinct. Maybe your chickens have gained some back, especially seeing as they were out in the woods. ;)

If you'd have filmed that it'd probably garner you about a mil on EweToob nowadays.
Cool story.
I wish I would've taken pics of when my sister and her buddy delivered my clown car from Chicago on a lawnmower trailer. That was comedy gold.

There is a tide in the affairs of men Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat; And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose our ventures. ― William Shakespeare , Julius Caesar (Act IV, Scene III)
Ya know? When I bought the clown car and signed up for my SS retirement benefits, I knew I was gonna be giving Chip a lot of money.
I hadn't planned on making him a billionaire, though. ;)
(Edit) I'm havin' fun though. Every time I see Chip, he calls me "Sunshine" (Sardonic). He thought I was a deaf/mute for several years when I was at one of his two shops with Rainman.

I don't influence many people any more -- as you said, mostly just family these days. For years now I haven't preached (just do an occasional wedding or funeral now), and haven't formally taught any subject. Some of my grandchildren want me to teach them Tae Kwon Do, which I taught for several years -- and I hope to do that soon -- but I haven't started yet. But I do teach them critical thinking skills, dimensional analysis, and how things work.
One of them is exceptionally gifted in language; I learn at least as much from her as she does from me. When she goes off into Chinese I just tell her I'm hopeless, don't waste your breath on me. Once in a lesson on the attributes of God, her teacher said "God had no beginning and no end. Can you think of anything else in the entire universe that could be said of?" He was expecting to hear only a chorus of "No"s. But my granddaughter raised her hand and said "Yes. Numbers. They start forever back at negative infinity, and go on forward to positive infinity. Never ending in either direction."
Oh, and I warn the girls how bad boys are, and the boys how bad women can be. Ask any of my daughters -- all grown and married now -- What are boys? -- and to this day they'll answer Boys are BAD!
I have two Silverado 1500s sitting in my driveway -- a 2002 and a 2004. Daughter #5 gave us back the 2004 when her husband bought her a Rav4 last year. (We had given it to her as a wedding gift two years earlier.) Fixed it up to sell -- one or the other. A LOT of work. But I just can't make myself sell one of them. Because as soon as I sell one of them, I know the other might give up the ghost. And trying to find another good used truck at a decent price in Bidenstan would be like trying to buy a rib- eye steak without selling the house, or trying to wash an Ethiop white.
That's damn good advice as long as I'm extant. The illegal Venezuelans next door have a 13 or 14 y/o (going on 30) that would be a target for a perv (she is a hot little hammer).
and the boys how bad women can be.
Good luck with that that, Daddio!

Truck prices are off the charts now. Man, I don't know what to tell you.
I bought the clown car because I don't want the vax zombies to wreck my work truck which can't be replaced.
The Toyota dealer offered me $10,000 more than I paid for the thing in 2013 when I took it in for a frame rust recall a couple years ago, like the thing's ever been wet (11,000 mi).

They did this in the 80s and again in the 2000s just about the time they had the first bailout in 2007. I remember it all too well, as I was on the cusp of buying a house, but lacked the money to do so, by the time the bailout had done its damage, I was able to buy a house due to the aftermath. When I see people stacking metal, thats not exactly a good or smart thing for the uninitiated. They are thinking they are going to pay interest on an asset, and flip it for bigger money. Wrong. If anything all it will do is raise your credit card balance because the people buying gold will be buying at THEIR price, much like they are also selling it at THEIR price.
Rare is it that you buy gold or silver at a decent price. You pay market value, plus whatever fees on top of that, hoping that one day that the price of that metal will be worth more than what you paid for it. Gold is about to be devalued yet again, along with silver, because there is a huge push for the electronic currency thanks to morons who helped build their own electronic prisons.

When I went in during the last financial crisis, I went in pretty hard at $900 and $9, about 500k now, which has been stuck forever. I doubled my money in 10+ years, not a great investment.
My local dealer Solly (a Jew) has always treated me more than fairly on selling.
People like me until I shoot them in the face. Married gals really like me. Maybe it's because I'm a bad boy. When the sign says stay off the grass, I do.

That's an interesting thought. I can see how government-imposed digital currencies could reduce the demand for gold and silver, as buying it might be too difficult or even risky. On the other hand, in CBDC world, where paper dollars are designedly worthless, gold and silver might gain more luster as the only real money. Could go either way?
