That that blasphemous, anti-Southern, hypocritical tripe should be styled a "hymn" is proof positive that Mr. Lincoln and his damnyankee marauders were animated by Satan himself.
When some years ago my oldest daughter was for a season fated to serve as the pianist for a Northern church, one Sunday they held a "patriotic service" -- probably July 4 or some other such damnyankee holiday. When the song leader announced that the congregation would sing The Battle "Hymn" of the Republic, my daughter refused to play it. Two hundred damnyankee Baptists about ruptured their spleens.
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. - Jesus, Luke 16:10
probably July 4 or some other such damnyankee holiday.
July 4 is the celebration of the founding of the nation and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is a holiday of the entire nation and not merely a "damn Yankee holiday".
And if you do not know where the Star Spangled Banner was written, then you are not on the ball at all, historically.
It was written at the Battle of Fort McHenry during the war of 1812. ;)
