That that blasphemous, anti-Southern, hypocritical tripe should be styled a "hymn" is proof positive that Mr. Lincoln and his damnyankee marauders were animated by Satan himself.
When some years ago my oldest daughter was for a season fated to serve as the pianist for a Northern church, one Sunday they held a "patriotic service" -- probably July 4 or some other such damnyankee holiday. When the song leader announced that the congregation would sing The Battle "Hymn" of the Republic, my daughter refused to play it. Two hundred damnyankee Baptists about ruptured their spleens.
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. - Jesus, Luke 16:10
There are Southern Baptists up north. How this came to be I have no idea.
Where I grew up in jew jersey during the "everybody do your thing" 60s, the churches arranged an evening program for youth to hear each denomination make its case via a panel of clergymen. The Catholic priest who hosted the event came off as totally unspiritual. The gent who headed a middle-size Southern Baptist church was the most persuasive and substantive, not least because of his calm, no-BS demeanor. His gentle Southern accent didn't hurt.
You know -- sort of like watching George Wallace take on a knot of pointy-headed Meet The Press pseuds ;)
