Citing the body's failure to properly address the conflict between Israel and Palestine, Craig Mokhiber has resigned from the United Nations (UN), becoming the former director of the UN's human rights office (OHCHR) in New York.
Instead of doing the job it was tasked with doing, the UN has instead "surrendered to the power of the U.S.," Mokhiber stated, adding that American politicians have completely given in to the "Israeli lobby."
"The European, ethno-nationalist, settler colonial project in Palestine has entered its final phase," Mokhiber further claimed, citing the Zionist origins of modern-day Israel and the ethnic cleansing project that has been in the works for many decades.
"Once again, we are seeing a genocide unfolding before our eyes, and the Organization that we serve appears powerless to stop it," Mokhiber wrote in a letter to Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, that was published this week.
