All I can find about Foxx dying poor is that he owed the IRS a ton of money, maybe because Lear was such a tightwad. Sanford and Son never did much for me but All in the Family and the Jeffersons pioneered politically incorrect content. It's a terrible thing pundits do summarizing Archie Bunker only and always as a "bigot". Henry Fonda spouted a script doing so introducing an anniversary special on the show. Archie was voted the greatest TV character in history and that's because he dared to say what everybody out there across the fruited plain thinks and knows -- not because people love bigots. Lear and Yorkin were jews, Reiner was a jew, the credits were usually stuffed with jewnames. The show mostly succeeded because of the echt Irish-American Carroll O'Connor's redesign of his character -- which was, never let it be forgot, Lear's tribute to his father. In a couple of unused AITF pilots you can see where the show's formula needed CPR. Alas, Carroll jumped on the bandwagon of low-rating the character with the worst of them. Maybe it was only lip service. Many episodes were straight mockery of gliberalism or affirmations of the Bunkers' normalcy -- when the show wasn't destroying Archie's character of course. Searching a favorite episode in YT (Amelia's Divorce) I find most of it's gone, which is a real shame. It's one of the greatest moments in TV history and directed by a native Englishman named Nicoll. Chase it down sometime, somehow: www.youtube.com/shorts/p LoQIbgj3XQ Lear's sitcom Maude was similar -- even more strongly devoted to mocking the main character's gliberal fanaticism and other jewish traits even though the title character (played by jewess Beatrice Arthur) was officially a WASP. I bought and am enjoying the complete series via Ebay. In a hilarious crossover episode of AITF the Bunkers visit the Findlays for Maude's daughter Carol's wedding to a jew. The engagement comes apart before our eyes expressly because of the groom's jewish attitudes and assumptions. The great Marcia Rodd is hilarious as Carol -- played her till the much less funny Adrienne Barbeau took the role. Ya got me goin. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread
